Southern Railway 154 Picture

A picture of Three River Ramblers (ex-Southern Railway) #154 (The engine that was thought to be responsible for the recordings.), idling on part of the Three River Ramblers Railroad line during the "Three River Ramblers Railfan Weekend" in Marbledale, Tennessee on August 8th, 2010.

Tallulah Falls Railroad 78 Picture

A picture of the locomotive when it masqueraded as Tallulah Falls Railroad #78 for the photo charter that Dynamo Productions held on August 16th, 2015. Here in this picture, it's crossing over the short bridge that goes over the Holston River.

This is a rare sound effect that can not be found on any (already known) sound effects library, and it is going to be placed in the Unknown Sound Effects Library. It's commonly referred to as "Skarloey's whistle" in the (formerly) long-running British children's television series, Thomas & Friends, when it made it's transition to CGI (Computer-generated-imagery) animation. The whistle heard in the recordings is said to have been the Southern Railway 5 chime steam whistle from Three River Ramblers Railroad (ex-Southern Railway) steam locomotive #154, when it masqueraded as Tallulah Falls Railroad #78 for a photo charter that was held by Dynamo Productions, and occurred on August 16th, 2015. However, this is unlikely, as the first time this sound effect was heard was in an episode from The Country Mouse and the City Mouse Adventures, which was a television series that was on air from 1997 - 1998. (The engine was not in service at the time, and the photo charter wouldn't happen for another 10 years.) However, as said by YouTube user "LoveThamas The TrainBoi", he states that the whistle could've been that of the ALCo 5 chime that was equipped on Nevada Northern Railway #93, considering the fact that it was in operation in 1993 when it sported the whistle. Of course, it is unknown if this is actually true or not.

Chicago & NorthWestern Railways -1385 picture

a picture of C&NWR #1385 (the engine that its actually responsible for the recording). in a unknown location and date. preserved C&NWR Rolling Stock.

However the recordings aren't from an ALCo 5 chime from Nevada Northern Railway #93 because recently it has now been confirmed to be actually from a Steam Locomotive from the "Chicago & NorthWestern Railroad", especifically from Chicago & NorthWestern #1385 (according to the YouTube user Isaac Rodríguez/Sierra Railway Videos). because #1385 was in service in the years 1997 and 1998 with it's whistle unchanged, so the dates match. this steam train also have sound effect variants used to make the comparisons. and also that #1385's whistle (which is in a raspy tone) is identical to the SFX.

So, this confirms that this sound effects, along with the (already mentioned) variants and the high pitched ones are from #1385 and not from an Alco 5 chime from #93.
