Originally a UPA effect, it debuted in UPA cartoons in the 1940s, but it is unknown which one first used it. Then in the 1960s, Hanna-Barbera picked up this sound effect and used it in H-B cartoons. In 1993, Sound Ideas picked up this sound effect and added it in the Hanna-Barbera Sound Effects Library.

It's actually a +12 pitched and sped up version of the Disney sound effect Hollywoodedge, Wet Splats Various CRT052303.
