It was originally an MGM sound effect that debuted in the cartoon ''The Bear That Couldn't Sleep'' (a Barney Bear short) on June 10, 1939. Since then, it was used as MGM's trademark ricochet sound in the cartoons (along with Sound Ideas, RICOCHET - CARTOON RICCO 01) from the 1940's to the 1950's, but, after the closure of the MGM cartoon studio in 1957, They took this sound effect to the animation studio, ''Hanna-Barbera Productions'', and used their trademark ricochet sound for their animated shows.
