This sound effect can be found on the Soundstorm Sound Effects Library, which was made by SoundDogs. It was originally a sound effect from the Skywalker Sound company, and it was created by either Ben Burtt, or Randy Thom, and debuted in Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980).

As of now, it is unknown what year did SoundDogs pick up the track, along with the shorter variant listed below. Out of all the sounds heard throughout the track, the second impact seems to be the one that is the most used in media. (Likely because of how unique it sounds.)
