Skywalker Sound is a post-production sound service founded in 1975 by George Lucas and Ben Burtt, created by Lucasfilm Ltd. for Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977). It it one of the most popular sound services, working with around 200 staff members on around 100 projects a year, ranging from commercials and short films to documentaries, TV shows and movies, including independent projects.

Skywalker Sound is involved with the debut of many major sound formats, like Dolby Digital ("Ghost Train" trailer), Auro 3D (Red Tails), and Dolby Atmos (Brave).

In 1990, Skywalker Sound essentially collaborated with Sound Ideas Canada Ltd. and created the Lucasfilm Sound Effects Library.
