First recorded by Jimmy MacDonald in February 1941, this sound effect is made from a slide whistle. Originally a Disney sound effect, it first appeared in the Mickey Mouse short, "A Gentleman's Gentleman" in March 28, 1941. It's first television appearance to used this sound was The Glo Friends episode, "The Quest" in September 23, 1986. In 1992, The Hollywood Edge added it to the Cartoon Trax Volume 1 library. In 2014, after the bankruptcy of The Hollywood Edge, Sound Ideas took over to acquire this sound.
It's very similar to, but shouldn't be confused with CARTOON, WHISTLE - SLIDE WHISTLE: ZIP UP, which can be found on the Warner Bros. Sound Effects Library. Plus, Slide Whistle In Out CRT057601, CRT057602 and CRT057603 have the same slide whistle as this one and those can also be found in the Cartoon Trax Volume 1 library.
Today, it is heard in more than 1,000 pieces of media (like Barney & Friends, Pokémon, SpongeBob SquarePants, Teen Titans Go!, and Bill Nye, the Science Guy), along with other Disney whistle zip sounds from the library.
