This sound is created by Patrick Bietz in 1987. Originated at Ryder Sound Services, it debuted in Cohen and Tate on October 12, 1988. Then in 1989, Soundelux took over to use this sound in media.

On August 13, 1990, The Hollywood Edge picked up this sound effect and added it to The Premiere Edition Volume 1 library. Then in 2014, Sound Ideas took over to acquire this sound after the bankruptcy of The Hollywood Edge.

This sound includes few portions similar to many other sound effects (linked below as audio previews), also made by The Hollywood Edge. It's also heard sped-up in (or similar to) Metal Impact, Heavy Explosive Crash, Collision, Shattering Glass, Debris on The Odyssey Collection: Essentials Sound Effects Library, which was made by Pro Sound Effects.

It was also part of a compilation of special mix crash sound effects from The Premiere Edition Volume 1 in Crash - Various - C U - Little To Medium, W Lots Of Mixed Debris, Some Ceramic Smashes, which is on Soundstorm Sound Effects Library (distributed by Sound Ideas).

A slightly edited version of this sound effect is heard in the preview for the same library on the first Hollywood Edge promotional sampler disc, which was released in 1992, and can be sampled below.
