An example of the sound effect being used in the Thomas & Friends episode: "Bye George!".

Back in 1987, Patrick Bietz recorded this sound at Ryder Sound Services as it was originated there. It made its first appearance in Cohen and Tate on October 12, 1988.

In 1989, Soundelux acquired this sound and used it in different movies.

On August 13, 1990, The Hollywood Edge picked up this sound and added it to The Premiere Edition Volume 1 library.

In 2014, after the bankruptcy of The Hollywood Edge, Sound Ideas took over to acquire this sound, along with other Hollywood Edge sounds.

This sound was often used in Thomas & Friends as its trademark crash sound effect (along with Car Crash SS010101) for a lot of things involved in crashes and other types of destruction, from seasons 4-12. It has been used most often from seasons 4-6.

It was also later reused in the Sound Ideas sound effect, AUTO, CRASH - CAR CRASH, LONG VERSION, DIGIFFECTS (in it, the entire audio from this effect plays in its normal pitch and the second half of it replays at a fast speed and in a very high pitch), which is available on Special Sound Effects by Digiffects - Series J and the Digiffects Power Pack Sound Effects Library (made by Sound Ideas).

It was also part of a compilation of special mix crash sound effects from The Premiere Edition Volume 1 in Sound Ideas, Crash - Various - C U - Little To Medium, W Lots Of Mixed Debris, Some Ceramic Smashes, which is on Soundstorm Sound Effects Library (distributed by Sound Ideas).

The glass shattering element to this sound effect can be found separately on The Premiere Edition Volume 10, listed as Hollywoodedge, Glass Impacts Shatt PE1050807.
