This sound was recorded in 1943 by Jimmy MacDonald and it was made by a jew's harp. Originally a Disney effect, it debuted in the Goofy short, Victory Vehicles on July 30 of the same year.

Later, other cartoon studios (like Jay Ward Productions and Cambria Productions) acquired this sound effect.

Then in the summer of 1992, The Hollywood Edge added this sound to the Cartoon Trax Volume 1 library. In 2014, Sound Ideas took over to acquire this sound after the bankruptcy of The Hollywood Edge.

This sound included in BOINK, CARTOON - SEVERAL DOINKS AND POINKS on the Hanna-Barbera Sound Effects Library and in BOUNCE, CARTOON - SMALL BOUNCING and BOINK, CARTOON - HEAVY BOINK in a high pitch on the Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends Sound Effects Library.

It's also very similar to and should not be confused with COMEDY, ACCENT - SMALL JEWS HARP: HOPPING, which can be found on The General Series 6000 Sound Effects Library.
