Recorded by Jimmy MacDonald in the 1940s, it was made from the siren whistle. The same siren whistle came from Quick Whistle Zip By CRT057502 as it was altered to create a different whistle. It was originally a Disney sound effect that was first used in Disney cartoons in 1940s, but it is unknown which one first used it.

Later, other cartoon studios (like Warner Bros. and DePatie-Freleng Enterprises) acquired this sound effect.

In the summer of 1992, The Hollywood Edge added it to the Cartoon Trax Volume 1 library. In 2014, Sound Ideas took over to acquire it after the bankruptcy of The Hollywood Edge.

Some variations that cannot be found on the Cartoon Trax Volume 1 library are SIREN WHISTLE ZING 01 which is quite similar to that one, 02 which is the same sound effect and DESCENDING SLIDE WHISTLE WITH WOODEN CRACK exist, which is a shortened version with a wooden crack sound.
