The CD port of the Genesis game keeps the original elements from its 16-bit counterpart, but replaces the sprite cutscenes with fully animated versions done by the creators of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog. And would have the original voice actors from the show reprising their roles as the villains. Voice overs of the villains are also added in the gameplay.

Another slight change is that the plot adds references to Sonic, as Robotnik wants to stop him from saving Beanville.
