NYC -999

An image of New York Central and Hudson River Railroad #999 (The engine that is thought to be responsible for the recording.) on static display at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, Illinois.

This is a Disney sound effect that is not on Hollywoodedge Cartoon Trax Volume 1 The whistle that is heard in this sound effect is said to have been from New York Central and Hudson River Railroad steam locomotive #999 (a.k.a “The Empire State Express”) or a Star Brass 5-chime. However, it is unlikely that the locomotive was the one responsible, due to no media confirming that it sported the whistle heard. This is due to the fact that most footage of the locomotive in operation was mostly silent film, as the locomotive operated mostly during the late 1800's, and early 1900's. However there’s only one piece of media that New York Central and Houston River Railroad steam locomotive #999’s whistle can be heard with sound which was the 1948-49 CHICAGO RAILROAD FAIR "WHEELS A ROLLING" MUSICAL HISTORY OF TRAINS 51854. Which was a color film released in 1958 and it can be found on YouTube which was posted by PeriscopeFilm. Here’s the link for the video https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gXxF59N4pdw (skip to 23:20 for the whistle.).
