A picture of Poway Midland Railway #3, passing through a crossing.
These Disney sound effects—while not included on Cartoon Trax Volume 1 or Hanna-Barbera Sound Effects Library—were used extensively for Casey Junior in The Reluctant Dragon and Dumbo.
Originally Lisboa Filme/Tobis Portuguesa sound effects, they debuted in A Canção de Lisboa (1933). The whistle, as heard in Dumbo, was sourced off from Poway Midland Railway steam locomotive #3.
The second whistle is that of a (supossedly) custom built whistle that can be seen in one scene in The Reluctant Dragon (1941), where a foley artist can be seen blowing into it during the sequence of the Casey Jr. short where Casey quarrels with the tugboat over a drawbridge.
