This is a sound effect that was most likely made for the Cinesound Library. As the name implies, it is the sound of a steam train approaching and passing by, with it's whistle blowing. Judging by the high-pitched screaming whistle, it's likely that this was recorded from a steam locomotive that originated from a European country. And, it was heard from a LNER Single Chime and sourced off from LNER Thompson Class B1 #61306 "Mayflower".

This track was most likely recorded either during the late 70's, or the early 80's, and it debuted in the 1983 British spy film, Octopussy. One year later, the sound would be reused for a similar purpose in the 1984 action-comedy film, Top Secret! for the train seen in the opening scene. However, a rumbling/roaring can be heard once it passes by. (Most likely because the sound was edited to have it included.)

As of now, the two films listed have been (and most likely will be) the only pieces in media that have used this sound effect.
