This is one of the most commonly used anime sound effects. Several of the variants originated from a real kotsuzumi, most specifically in animes from the 60s, while several of the more well-known variants originated from the Roland SC-88.

This sound effect gained popularity as a meme in recent times and is now commonly known as the "Bamboo Hit Sound Effect".
